Degree-Attainment and Employability
We drilled-down on international education's value to college students facing increasing costs. It's centered around using the evidence to enhance degree completion, enhance career mapping, employability and potential income while lowering the likelihood of student loan default. It's a different approach to raising those bars.
While study abroad has traditionally been a great way to see the world while in college, its popularity in today's environment will be limited as more students gravitate to opportunities that will improve their postion in a globally competitive marketplace. We see a new model for study abroad that will attract a more diverse student body focused on enhancing their skills, targetted career insight and world view. After graduation, they will face a brutally competitive labor market. We want them to have an edge.
In response to the degree attainment and employability motives of highered and students alike we developed three business units for our programs: Global Transportation; Global Health and Global Internships.
We are lauching Global Internships with a pilot, Baseball Industry Internship Progam (BIIP) in the Dominican Republic (http://prlog.org/11868411). 287 colleges and universities in the U.S. offer degree programs in sports business management according to the North American Society for Sports Management. Interest in this subject is increasing at Minority Serving Institutions like HBCUs as professional sports leadership is diversifying.
All 30 Major League Baseball teams have training camps or academies in the Dominican Republic. We saw an opportunity for students to acquire invaluable industry insight and become more globally engaged. Global Internships will expand into other professions very soon.
Yes for us, it's all about degree attainment and employability through value- driven, global student mobility.
We Must Raise the Bars Now
